“It all started with a coffee date. A “We met online so I only have 45 minutes before I have to be somewhere” screening date, to be more specific. We sipped on black coffee and talked about real things like we’d done it a hundred times before. It was easy, and I knew I wanted to see him again. (And I was pretty sure he wasn’t a serial killer…
Later that weekend, we went on our first of many “real dates”. Over the next couple weeks, he sent me two cards in the mail with coded messages inside and told me I’d have to wait, “Probably a long time,” before he would give me the key to decode them. As someone who comes from a long line of very impatient people, I did not like hearing that, but decided it was probably worth it. A few months later, he let me decode message #1. The message read, “I love you.”
It was perfect.
I bet you can see where this is headed.
After a year and a half of waiting to read message #2, it was finally time to decode it. As he went to get the decoder, I stared at the four-word mystery phrase that ended in a question mark, trying to contain my excitement. I decoded that thing at lightning speed. He pulled out the ring. “Will you marry me?” WE CRIED SO MUCH. And again, it was perfect.
All the planning and excitement finally came together into the most beautiful day, and I am so happy to be married to my person. We were surrounded by all the people we love in a perfect setting, and I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate our love!
