Another year has escaped me. Today my beautiful, witty, kind, and overly dramatic daughter turns eight. I see so much of myself in her, it’s hard to believe she is ONLY eight some days, and at the same time, hard to believe that she is ALREADY eight. In ten short years she will be an adult…but I digress. I’ve discovered that the older she gets, and consequently the older that I get, everything my mother told me, everything she ever warned me about – they’re all true. It’s not about winning the battles, but instead about winning the war. This photoshoot is proof of that. She hated every moment of it – Kaelyn if you read this you’ll remember. My dear princess is not a fan of fields and tall grass – so unlike myself. But man can she give a killer stink eye. Happy birthday to this spitfire. The days are long but the years are short.

There are several things I really love in this world including Badass couples in love, and Beer. Combine the two and it’s bound to be a freaking amazing time. Andrea, Derek, and their friends and family were some of the coolest people I’ve gotten to work with.  They were wed this past Saturday at Sugar Creek Brewing Company in Charlotte – this venue was incredible. I love industrial settings to begin with, but the exposed brick covered with vines, fairy lights, and bistro lighting turned this brewery into a magical setting. There were so many unique aspects to this union I’m not sure where to begin! Candles lined the rose petal covered aisle that the bride walked down. Their floral decor and bouquets were white hydrangea and seeded eucalyptus – subtle but so elegant.  They had adult freeze pops – which I appropriately nicknamed booze-cicles – don’t worry they had childrens freeze pops too. For their “guestbook” they had their guests sign Beatles Albums.  I don’t think Derek stopped smiling the entire night. It was incredible to watch this couple celebrate their love with their family and I hope nothing but the best for them in the years to come!

What an incredible way to kick off Fall 2017 Wedding Season! Travis and Kate had one of the most heartfelt and unique weddings I’ve gotten to shoot to date. Let’s start with how intune this couple is. They were so in the moment that after the ceremony – while their guests were filing out of the church – nothing else mattered but THEM. They held each other for minutes after they said “I Do”, and it was everything. Back up to the ceremony – Kate’s father is a bee keeper – although I don’t know if this has anything to do with their honey symbolism ceremony (or unity ceremony).  This was the first time I had heard of this type of unity ceremony but later found out the roots of a honey unity ceremony are based in Persia. Literally SO SWEET. See what I did there? Then there was the reception – which was filled with dancing, laughter, beautiful toasts to the happy couple, and lots of animal heads. Congratulations Kate and Travis!!

This sweet couple is expecting their first child this fall. When Kristen contacted me about photographing their family through the next few months, I was so excited.  The tone of her initial e-mail held such hope and excitement for meeting their baby boy. In the everyday moments of life, it is easy to forget what a precious and important role we mothers play in bringing our children to the world. Kristen’s beautiful outlook on life and motherhood is such an inspiration and has reminded me over and over what a blessing it is to be but a small part of this time in their lives. We had such a great evening together during their maternity photography session, and I am now even more excited to meet their little one!

I am SO looking forward to working with this couple again for their wedding in March. I have no doubt that Meghan (and her gorgeous big brown eyes) is going to make a beautiful bride. This was my first time shooting in Burlington and man, did this couple pick an amazing setting. We started our session at Glencoe Mill – which is just the coolest run down structure I’ve gotten to shoot at – before heading to Jeff’s families land, to play in the grass and roll in the field. There was no shortage of PDA and the sunset was dreamy. Picture perfect to a T.
